“Our people are our greatest assets.” Every company says this, don’t they? Here, it’s anything but a corporate cliché. Every single person at Rx Savings Solutions contributes to our success and delivers value to our members and clients.
The Rx Savings Spotlight is an opportunity to share a little about what makes our employees tick—one by one and one on one.
Matt Jarvis, PharmD:
“Dr. J,” as he’s known around here, came to Rx Savings Solutions from Walgreen’s, where he served in a variety of pharmacy and specialty management roles between Kansas City and northwest Arkansas.
Like everyone on the Pharmacy team, Matt saw Rx Savings Solutions as an opportunity to help people beyond just dispensing their medications, to help change a system that so badly needs changing.
When asked to describe himself in three words, he replied: “Patient. Inquisitive. Loyal.” If there were a fourth, we would add “modest.” It was only after several months on the job that we learned Matt and his wife, Tara, founded and operate a non-profit that provides thousands of baby blankets to hospital neonatal intensive care units every year. They started Grace Blankets in 2014 in memory of their daughter Piper Grace. Now they’re in four states.
Here’s a little more about Matt:
What is your favorite part about your job with Rx Savings Solutions?
The TEAM. I've worked with a lot of teams over the years but never have had the privilege to work with a more talented and focused group. It’s great to be part of a team that allows me to learn and grow each and every day!
Since you began working here, what have you seen change the most?
I would say the most change has occurred in how our different teams come together and work cross functionally to achieve a combined goal in helping the members. Engineering, Pharmacy, Customer Success, Analytics, Pharmacy Support, Sales… Each of these groups is able to work together seamlessly and challenge each other to improve and take performance to the next level.
What are your hopes for the industry?
CHANGE! Changing how patients access pharmacy in general. Removing the waste in the system with middlemen/wholesalers/etc. Today the system is too complex. I’d like to see simple hybrid models for the supply chain and community pharmacy that allow better access, a more seamless flow of information, and simplicity for all stakeholders.
What is something you are passionate about?
Helping people. Whether it's in pharmacy or volunteering at a hospital or helping someone cross the street. You never know what the person next to you is going through in life. Being positive and looking for opportunities to impact those around you, however small it may be, can make a huge difference.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
How do you like to spend your days off?
Hanging out with the family (at the pool, playing sports, traveling, food).
What is your dream job (besides your current one, of course)?
To attend culinary school and become a chef. It’s a bucket list item, but I will make this happen at some point.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I met my wife Tara in junior high at age 14. We’ve been together ever since.
What's one piece of advice you would have given yourself at age 13?
Dream big! Fear nothing! Set massive goals and let nothing get in your way!
